White chocolate chip cookies
These white chocolate chip cookies are soft, chewy and crispy in the right places. Deliciously moorish, Not to mention full of chunks of white chocolate, they’ll be a sure fire hit with any cookie lover in your family.
White chocolate chip cookies are the ultimate cookie for any white chocolate lover. We love cookies in our house, and these white chocolate ones are no exception. They’re deliciously soft and chewy in the middle (like all good cookies should be in my opinion). The chunks of white chocolate add a nice bite of texture and a little sweetness, making these perfect for a treat.
We’ve based these cookies on our favourite easy cookie recipe for kids, but swapped out some of the brown sugar for golden caster sugar, and added in loads of white chocolate chips instead of regular ones. They’re just as easy to make, and just as delicious, but in their own white chocoaltey way.
How can kids help make white chocolate chip cookies?
Cookies are a great bake for kids. I love recipes that just mix everything together in one bowl and these do exactly that.
My kids loved getting to measure everything out and mix it all together. And may even sneak a chocolate chip or two as they pour them in. Forming cookies, is a lot easier and quicker than rolling out biscuits which is another reason I love making these cookies.
Scooping out balls of cookie dough with a spoon before popping them on a baking tray is a great job for little chefs. One both my kids really enjoy.
How do you stop cookies going flat when they bake?
There are normally two reasons why cookies flatten too much in the oven. I always recommend chilling your unbaked cookies in the fridge for 20 minutes or so before you bake them. This should stop your cookies from spreading too much in the oven.
The other reason for flat cookies can be that there’s too much butter or too little flour. Try adjusting your ratio or butter to flour if you don’t like how your cookies have turned out.
How long do white chocolate cookies keep?
In our house, these don’t take long to disappear but you still have some, they will keep in an air tight container for 3-5 days. You can also freeze cookies, either before they’re baked or after. Wrap them in cling film/ glad wrap and pop them in a freezer bag. In the freezer they’ll keep for a few months. Make sure you leave them out to defrost fully before you serve them.
What can I use instead of self raising flour?
If you don’t have any self raising flour, which is easily found in the supermarket here in the UK, swap it for an equal amount of plain or all purpose flour and add a teaspoon of baking powder and a pinch of salt.
Can I use white chocolate bars instead of chips in the recipe?
Yes, you can chop up white chocolate bars into chunks and use them in place of white chocolate chips. Just ensure they’re roughly the same size as chips to ensure even distribution in your cookies.
Do I need to chill the cookie dough before baking the cookies?
Chilling the cookie dough for about 15-30 minutes can help prevent the white chocolate cookies from spreading too much during baking.
What can I do if my cookies are too sweet?
White chocolate can be quite sweet so if these white chocolate chip cookies turn out too sweet for your taste, try reducing the amount of sugar in the recipe slightly. You can also balance the sweetness by adding a pinch of salt or enjoying the cookies with a glass of milk.

Difficulty: Easy
Serves: 12
Time: 20 minutes + 10 minutes baking
Ingredients
100g (1/2 cup) butter
100g (1/2 cup) golden caster sugar
50g (1/4 cups) soft brown sugar
1 egg
½ tsp vanilla extract
200g (1 2/3 cups) self raising flour
100g (1/2 cup) white chocolate chips
How to make white chocolate chip cookies
Preheat your oven to 180C / 170C Fan / 350F and line 2-3 baking trays with baking / greaseproof paper.
Mix the butter and sugar together
Get your kids to measure the sugars and the butter out, and put them in a mixing bowl or free-standing mixer.
Cut your butter into little pieces to make it easier to mix and if it’s not soft (we always forget to take our butter out the fridge beforehand), pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to soften it, – not long enough to melt it.
Using the k-paddle of your free-standing mixer, wooden spoons or a handheld whisk, cream the butter and sugar together until they are light and fluffy.
Add the egg and vanilla extract
Get your kids to crack the egg into a small bowl then add it to your mixing bowl.
Measure the vanilla extract and pour it into your bowl then mix everything together. If you’re making this with young children, you might need to hold the teaspoon steady while they pour in the vanilla or vice versa.
Add the flour
Measure the flour out and add it to your mixing bowl. Give everything one more mix until it all comes together in a nice stiff ball of cookie dough.
Add the white chocolate chips
Finally, get your kids to pour the chocolate chips in and mix them in with a spatula or wooden spoons. There’s no need to measure the chocolate chips out – just let your kids pour them in!
Make the cookies
Spoon out dollops of cookie dough onto your prepared baking trays.
We used soup spoons because they seem to give just the right amount, but a large heaped teaspoon or some ice cream scoops work well too.
Chill the cookies in the fridge for 15 minutes or so before you bake them to stop them spreading too much in the oven.
Bake the white chocolate chip cookies
Bake the cookies in the oven for 8-10 minutes. They’re ready when they’ve started to turn golden brown. I like them, a little bit soft and chewy, but if you don’t you can keep them in the oven for another few minutes.
Remove them from the oven and leave them to cool on the trays for a few minutes before putting them on a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve and enjoy!

I try this recipe its pretty good
These cookies are amazing! I’ve saved the link for future reference. Thank you for sharing the recipe 💜
Thanks, I’m so glad you like them (they’re one of my favourites!) Helenx
First time making cookies and these came out perfectly. Absolutely delighted! Thanks for sharing your great recipe.
I’m so glad you liked them, these are one of my favourites!
Made these today with my 3year old and wow. They are absolutely fantastic. These are the best cookies I have ever tried and I will be making them again for sure. The family loved them.
I’m so glad you and your little one liked them!
Brilliant recipe, just a question however, do you have any idea of how much peanut butter i would add to make a peanut butter cookie with choc chips?
I’m not too sure as i’ve never made these with peanut butter. I’ve seen recipes with similar ratios of butter/sugar/flour that use around 75g of peanut butter, so you could try that as a starting point.
I love making these cookies so much and the family love it even more! I just wanted to ask what butter do you use when making these as I’ve been using the Stork butter but I’m wondering if there is a specific kind of butter I should use?
I’m so glad you like them, these are one of my favourites! I either use a block of butter or something like stork, depending on what’s to hand. They might spread a little more with a baking margarine, so make sure you chill them for half an hour or so before you bake them.
What is the difference in Golden caster sugar to white caster sugar?
You can use either caster or golden caster sugar for these cookies. I just like the slight richer flavour of golden caster sugar.
These have been our go to lock down recipe! Easy to make and not too messy. We buy bars of cheap white choc and chop it up. My other half tired with our son the other week and thought they weren’t cooked because they were so soft after 8 mins. He didn’t realise they firm up when cooling!
I’m so glad you like them, these are one of my favourite cookies (partly because I love white chocolate!)
Hi! I’ve have just took these out the oven and they have risen a little and have a cake like texture? I’m wondering if I should have used plain flour instead of self raising? Thanks!
We always use self raising flour with these and they seem to work. I think it’s possible to add too much air if you beat the sugar and eggs together too much. If you try them again maybe stop mixing those a bit sooner or use a wooden spoon and see if that helps?
I think they look like that when you take them out. Then when the cool they collapse and go harder.
This sounds gorgeous.I’m actually considering making this.
