Condensed milk cookies are a great basic biscuit/cookie recipe for kids and beginner bakers alike. With only 4 ingredients they can be ready in no time. And with no eggs they are a lot less messy than some cookie recipes.
I love these cookies. The condensed milk adds a delicious sweetness and makes them soft and chewy on the inside, while remaining a little crispy on the outside. In my opinion, that’s the way all good cookies should be.
How can kids help make condensed milk cookies?
This is a really easy cookie recipe which makes them perfect for kids.
If I want to make something really simple, I tend to look for a recipe with only a few ingredients, so with only 4 ingredients, this one is ideal. And if I want to avoid making too much mess I tend to avoid using eggs or things like icing sugar or cocoa powder. So again, these cookies really are perfect.
What kids will be able to get involved in is, measuring out the ingredients and mixing them all together. If you have young children or toddlers, these are both jobs they should easily be able to get involved in.
Unlike some cookie recipes that just dollop the cookie dough on to baking sheets to bake, you have to roll these cookies into balls.
This is a fun job for kids to do. It’s very tactile and it’s not often kids are encouraged to ‘play’ with their food. My kids always love getting the chance to make things by hand like this and I hope yours do too!
What does the condensed milk do in the cookies?
When you use condensed milk in baking it will give your baked goods a lovely soft tenderness. Condensed milk is also sweet so it will also add some extra sweetness to the biscuits.
Is evaporated milk the same as condensed milk?
No. Condensed milk has added sugar (or at least the ones we get in the UK do), but evaporated milk is like an unsweetened consensed milk. You can turn a can of evaporated milk into condensed milk by adding some sugar into it. To find out more in this handy guide to evaporated vs condensed milk.

How to make condensed milk cookies
Preheat your oven to 180C / 160C Fan / 350F and line 2 baking trays with baking or parchment paper.
Cream the butter and sugar together
Get your kids to measure the sugar out then add it to a large mixing bowl or freestanding mixer.
Measure the butter and chop it into small pieces. If your butter is too hard, (I always forget to take our out of the fridge to soften), then you can pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds or so to soften (not melt) it.
Add the butter to your mixing bowl.
Either using the k paddle of your mixer or a wooden spoon get your kids to beat the butter and sugar together until it looks light and fluffy.
Add the condensed milk
Measure out the condensed milk. (For us it was about half a can), then pour it into your mixing bowl.
Give everything another mix until it is well combined.
Add the flour
Get your kids to measure out the flour then add it to your bowl. Mix it in to everyythig else until it comes together in a slightly, soft, sticky cookie dough.
Make the condensed milk cookies
Grab little walnut sized pieces and get your kids to roll them into balls. I often find it easier to give my kids the right amount and let them roll it as they aren’t great at getting the same sized pieces. If you’ve got older children, they could perhaps do that for themselves.
Pop each cookie onto the prepared baking trays, allowing some room for the cookies to spread.
Chill the cookies in the fridge for 30 minutes before you bake them in the oven to stop them spreading too much.
Bake the cookies
Bake the cookies in the oven for 12-15 minutes. They’re ready when they’ve started to turn a nice golden brown around the edges. They might feel a little bit soft but should harden a little as they cool.
Remove them from the oven and leave them for a few minutes to cool before putting them on a wire rack to cool completely.
Serve and enjoy!

I used 20g less sugar and added some dedicated coconut. Spread out really well and remained chewy after 13 mins in the oven.
thanks for the recipe!
Easy to make, very sweet (to be expected), mine did not spread at all, I then used a fork to squash them down.
