Salted caramel fudge is a delicious, homemade treat. Made using a no-boil method its the perfect simple recipe for kids to try. The hardest part of this fudge is waiting for it to set!
We’ve got a lot of fudge recipes but this is another nice and easy classic flavour to enjoy. It’s a really soft, melt in your mouth fudge and the salt perfectly balances the sweetness of the caramel fudge. It’s similar to our condensed milk fudge, except this recipe uses a tin of caramel instead but it’s just as easy and uses the no-boil method which is my favourite way of doing it.
No boil fudge is a much easier and safer way of making fudge as you don’t need to heat sugar to a certain temperature for a certain length of time. This means less can go wrong in terms of the fudge setting. It’s also safer if your kids are involved in making it. I don’t know about you, but I don’t really like the idea of having my kids around when I’m boiling sugar.
Homemade fudge is a great thing to make with your kids during the festive season whether it’s to enjoy as a treat yourselves or to make as gifts for friends and family. Simply pop a handful into a bag and tie it with a ribbon for the perfect homemade present.
How can kids help to make salted caramel fudge?
This type of no boil fudge is a great recipe for kids to make as it’s a much simpler, safer way of making fudge. In fact, as long as you can trust your kids around a cooker and hot bowl, older children could make the whole thing themselves.
Your kids will be able to help weigh the chocolate and break it into pieces as well as adding the caramel. Luckily for us, the caramel came in a perfect sized tin so there’s no need to measure that out.
Once your ingredients are in the bowl, your kids can help stir it as it melts as long as they’re careful around the double boiler. This isn’t the best job for younger children or toddlers but older children should manage it.
Finally, your kids can help add the salt and stir it through before adding the fudge to your baking tin and smoothing it out.
Can you make fudge in a microwave?
Yes. You can make this fudge in a microwave if you have one. I prefer using a double boiler as I think I have more control over it – you can make sure you heat it very gently and watch it as it melts and comes together. A microwave will work though, and can be a good option if you have young children you don’t want around a cooker. You just need to make sure you keep an eye on it so the chocolate doesn’t burn.
To make fudge in the microwave, simply put all the ingredients into a microwavable bowl and heat it at 80% power in 30 second bursts Stir the fudge in between each 30 second burst and stop heating it when everything has melted and come together.
Can you make this fudge in a slow cooker?
Absolutely. A slow cooker is a great way of making this kind of no boil fudge. You can read full instructions in our slow cooker fudge recipe, but essentially you use the slow cooker as a gentle heat source, just as you would the bain-marie. Just make sure you keep the lid off to make sure any condensation can escape.
How do you store salted caramel fudge?
This fudge will keep for a week or two in an airtight container, which is what makes it a great homemade gift for friends and family.
If you want to keep the fudge for longer you can freeze it for up to three months. To freeze it, simply wrap it well in cling film/glad wrap and pop it in a freezer bag. Make sure you thaw it for a good few hours, or overnight before you serve it.
What chocolate should I use?
I always think with something as simple as this you should use the best white chocolate you can afford, especially if you’re making this as a gift.
What salt should I use?
This works best with a coarse sea salt as it adds a bit of texture as well as flavour. We’ve suggested using 1 – 2 teaspoons depending on your preferences. If you’re going to sprinkle some sea salt on top to decorate you might want to err on the side of less salt in the fudge.

Ingredients
500g white chocolate
397g tin caramel
1 – 2 teaspoons sea salt to taste
How to make salted caramel fudge
Start by lining an 8 inch (20cm) square baking tin with baking or parchment paper. The easiest way to do this is to cut a strip of baking paper the width of the tin and lay it in the tin in one direction, then repeat it in the other direction. Leave a bit of baking paper overhanging the edge of the tin to make it easier to remove the fudge from the tin later.
Melt the fudge ingredients together
Get your kids to weigh the chocolate out, break it into pieces and add it to a heatproof bowl.
Pour the tin of caramel into the bowl.
Set the bowl over a pot of simmering water, being sure the bowl doesn’t touch the water. Heat the chocolate and caramel gently until it has all melted, come together and there are no lumps.
If your kids are hold enough to be safe around a cooker, get them to stir the fudge with a spatula or wooden spoon while it’s melting. Make sure they are careful with bowl as it will get a little warm.
You could also use a microwave to melt the chocolate and caramel. Pop your bowl in the microwave and blast it at 80% power in 30 second intervals. Stirring in between each blast.
Add the salt
Once the fudge is ready, get your kids to add the salt and stir it through so it is well distributed.

Leave the fudge to set
Get your kids to help pour the salted caramel fudge mixture into your prepared baking tin. Press it into the edges/corners and smooth the top with a spatula or the back of a metal spoon or palette knife.
If you want’ sprinkle some more salt over the top of the fudge and press it in gently so it sticks.
Leave the fudge to set somewhere cool for 4+ hours. You can speed this up a little if you pop it in the fridge once it’s cooled down slightly.
Once it’s set, remove the fudge from the tin and cut it into pieces with a sharp knife (this is a job for grown ups).
Serve and enjoy.
