Peach crumble
Peach crumble is the ultimate comforting dessert. Perfect in the summer, or use tinned or canned peaches to enjoy this easy pudding all year round.
Peach crumble is the perfect easy dessert. Enjoy it with fresh peaches in the summer, or year round with tinned/canned peaches. The buttery crumble with added oats is deliciously wholesome and crunchy. While the peaches add some lovely sweet freshness.
And if you use canned peaches, there’s no need to peel or chop fresh ones so it’s super quick and easy which is great for kids who want to help.
Can you substitute canned peaches for fresh?
Yes, tinned/canned peaches are great because they’re cheap and available all year round. In the summer (July and August are peach season for us in the UK), you might be tempted to swap canned for beautiful fresh peaches.
If you want to use fresh peaches, simply swap the 2 cans for around six peaches. Make sure you use lovely ripe peaches that are soft and sweet, but not overly ripe and mushy.
Peal and slice the fresh peaches before you put them in your baking dish.
Nectarines can also be used in the place of fresh or canned peaches.
How can kids help make peach crumble from scratch?
Crumbles are great desserts for kids to make, because with only 5 ingredients they’re so easy and this peach crumble is no exception. In fact, as the peaches need so little preparation, it’s one of the easiest crumbles you can make.
My kids love getting their hands messy, rubbing the butter and flour together with their fingers to make the crumble topping.
If you’re using canned peaches, then emptying them into your baking dish and arranging them to make the filling really couldn’t be simpler.
Finally, even young children can help to sprinkle the crumble on topping on top.
What can you serve peach crumble with?
Crumbles are delicious on their own but I love them even more with a little bit of vanilla ice cream or custard.
How to store peach crumble?
If you cover your crumble and pop it in the fridge it will keep for a few days. Reheat it in the oven until the centre is piping hot before you serve it.

Ingredients
2 x 420g tins of sliced peaches
100g (1/3 cup + 2 tbsp) plain / all-purpose flour
115g (½ cup) butter
75g (1/3 cup + 2 tbsp) soft brown sugar
50g ( ½ cup) rolled oats
1 tsp cinnamon
How to make peach crumble
Preheat your oven to 180C / 170C Fan / 350F
Make the crumble topping
Start by getting your kids to measure out the flour and butter. Chop the butter into small pieces – this is a good job for kids who want to practice chopping as I doesn’t need a sharp knife. Pop the flour and butter into a large mixing bowl.
Get your kids to rub the butter and flour together with their fingers until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Measure the sugar, oats and cinnamon out and then add them to your bowl. Mix them in.
Make the peach crumble
Drain the peaches then get your kids to arrange them in the base of an oven proof dish. We used a round 28cm pie dish but this would also work in a smaller, deeper dish.
Make sure you have an even layer of peaches.
Get your kids to sprinkle the crumble topping over the peaches, covering them all.
Bake the peach crumble
Bake the crumble for approximately 45 minutes. It’s ready when the crumble topping has browned nicely and the peaches underneath are bubbling.
Remove the crumble from the oven, and serve with custard or ice cream.
