How can kids help to make Rice Krispie Christmas puddings?
These Rice Krispie Christmas puddings are a great, fun, no bake recipe for kids to make during the festive season.
Children of all ages can help measure the ingredients out – it’s such a great lesson in numbers and measurement.
If you have older children they can help to melt the butter, chocolate and marshmallows. As long as they are safe around a cooker, they can help to stir the mixture together until it is nice and smooth.
Younger children, can mix everything together making sure all the cereal is nice a coated in the chocolate mixture.
Once you have your chocolate Rice Krispie mixture your kids can help to form the Christmas pudding shapes with their hands. Make sure they do this with wet hands to stop the mixture from getting too sticky. This is a really fun, tactile job, that even really young children can enjoy.
Finally, your kids can help you to decorate the Christmas puddings. They can help pipe the white chocolate on top then add the decorative icing holly.
How long do Rice Krispie Christmas puddings keep?
These Christmas puddings will keep for up to a week in an air tight container. I don’t recommend freezing them.
Can I use dark chocolate instead?
Yes. You can swap the milk chocolate for dark chocolate, or use a mixture of both. Using dark chocolate will make them a richer, less sweet flavour.
Can I use a different cereal other than Rice Krispies?
Absolutely. Rice Krispies work well because you can pack them quite tightly into the Christmas pudding shape. You could use a different cereal if you prefer, but if you’re using something larger in size like cornflakes you might want to crush them slightly before mixing them in.
Can I add nuts or dried fruit?
Yes. If you chop them up before adding them, nuts like hazelnuts or dried fruits (cranberries would be particularly festive), would work well for a bit of extra flavour and texture.

How to make Chocolate Rice Krispie Christmas puddings
Prepare the chocolate mixture
Get your kids to measure out the chocolate and butter. Break the chocolate up, or chop it into small pieces. Add them both to a small saucepan.
Alternatively, you can put them in a microwavable bowl.
On a very low heat them gently on the hob. Or blast them in the microwave in short bursts until they are melted. If your kids are old enough to be trusted around a cooker, they can stir this until the mixture is nice and smooth.
Add the marshmallows and golden syrup
Measure out the marshmallows and syrup and add them to your bowl. Keep heating them gently until they are fully melted and mixed in.
Remove your sauce pan from the heat.
Mix with the Rice Krispies
Get your kids to measure out the Rice Krispies and add them to a mixing bowl. If you have younger children, they could do this while the chocolate/marshmallow mixture is melting.
Pour the chocolate/marshmallow mixture into your mixing bowl.
Using wooden spoons or a spatula stir everything together until the cereal is evenly coated in the chocolate mixture.
Form the Christmas pudding shapes
Spoon some the mixture out, then using your hands form round Christmas pudding shaped balls. Press them together well so they don’t fall apart later.
The mixture is a little sticky, if you wet your hands first, it wont stick to your hands and fingers as much.
Put the balls onto a baking tray and leave them to set for a few hours. Or if you can’t wait put them in the fridge for half an hour or so.
Decorate the Christmas puddings
Get your kids to break up the white chocolate and put it in a heatproof bowl set over a pan of simmering water (a double boiler). Gently melt the white chocolate, stirring it until it is smooth.
Add the melted chocolate to a small freezer bag and snip a small hole in the corner. Pipe the white chocolate on to the top of each Christmas pudding, then get your kids to add a icing holly leaf on top.
Leave them to set.
Serve and enjoy.
