Halloween brownies
Halloween brownies are the perfect spooky treat to make with kids this Halloween. The mummies are so easy to make – kids and adults will love them.
Halloween is a really fun time to do baking with your kids and these mummy brownies are of our my favourite spooky treats.
I love taking simple bakes and finding easy ways of turning them into creepy Halloween food ideas. So these Halloween brownies just add some white chocolate with some googly eyes to our favourite Mary Berry chocolate brownie recipe. A really simple but effective idea.
They’re perfect for any Halloween party or just a fun and spooky dessert for Halloween.
How can kids help make Halloween brownies?
The best thing about this recipe is that it’s so simple . We just use our easy chocolate brownie recipe that mixes everything together in one bowl. Even young children can help measure out the ingredients and make the brownie batter.
Kids will also enjoy decorating the mummy brownies . They can practice their piping skills adding white chocolate bandages and googly eyes.

how to make halloween mummy brownies
Pre-heat the oven to 180C / 160 Fan / 375F and prepare a 30 x 23 cm baking tin
Get your toddler to butter/grease your baking tin. I normally just tear off a corner of the butter packet or some grease proof paper and use that to spread the butter in the tin. Once greased, line the base and sides with baking paper.
Measure out the ingredients
Measure all the ingredients and add them to a large mixing bowl or freestanding mixer.
We normally use a small bowl to weigh everything out then add them them into the mixing bowl. If you’ve got younger children, face the scales towards you so you can see how much is going in and either use a spoon or pour the ingredients in. Older children can watch the number to try and measure the correct amount in.
Before adding the butter get your child to cut it into small chunks. If it’s softened they should be able to do this with a butter knife. If it’s not softened (we never remember to take the butter out the fridge before we start!), pop it in the microwave for 10 seconds or so before you add it.
Mix everything together
Use the k paddle of your freestanding mixer, or wooden spoons or a hand mixer if you’re doing it in a mixing bowl. Mix everything together until it is well combined.
Bake the halloween brownies
Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin, using a spatula spread the mixture gently into the corners and level the top.
Bake in the oven for 40-45 minutes. It’s cooked when the top of the brownies have a nice crust or if you stick a skewer in the middle and it should come out clean. If it starts to look a bit brown on top, cover loosely with foil for the last 10 minutes.
Once they’re cooked, leave the brownies to cool in the tin then cut into 15 squares (or more/less if you want smaller/larger pieces.
Decorate the Halloween brownies
Once your chocolate brownies have cooled, break the white chocolate into a heatproof bowl, pop your bowl over a pan of simmering water and stir it until it melts.
White chocolate is harder to melt than milk chocolate but I find if you use a double boiler it works better than putting it in the microwave.
If you do want to melt the white chocolate in the microwave, break it into pieces then heat it a 20-30 second intervals, stirring it inbetween each turn. When it’s mostly melted, remove it from the microwave the stir in any remaining pieces of chocolate until it’s fully melted.
Once the chocolate has melted put in in a piping bag or a freezer bag and cut a small hole in the corner. Get your kids to help you pipe across each brownie to make it look like the bandages on a mummy. We have a flat piping nozzle which worked really well, but it will still look good if you don’t have one.
Add the googly eyes, serve and enjoy!

Thanks. They’re my favourite brownie recipe – a bit fudgey and soft on the inside while crispy on the outside. And they’re fun for Halloween!
