This cookie dough bites recipes is very similar to our regular cookie dough recipe but with a few tweaks to make them safe to eat. We’re definitely guilty of licking the bowl when we bake, but with these you can do it guilt free. We’ve removed the egg (but added some extra butter so they’re not too dry) and heat treated the flour so there’s no danger of any nasties in them that might make you ill.
How can kids help to make cookie dough bites?
This is a really easy recipe for kids to make and the best thing is you don’t even have to stop them liking the spoon because its safe to eat!
Your kids will be able to measure out all the ingredients and mix them together.
And there’s no rolling or cutting needed. Once you’ve made the cooking dough you can just dollop it onto a baking tray (or even eat some straight from the bowl!)
Are cookie dough bites safe to eat?
Yes. There’s no egg in them so there’s no risk of salmonella. And you bake the flour at the start to sterilise it so there’s no risk from that either. So if your favourite part of baking is liking the bowl, these are the perfect treat for you!
How do you store cookie dough bites?
Cookie dough bites will keep for up to 2 days at room temperature or you can store them for up to a week in an air tight container in the fridge.
If you want to store them for longer you can freeze cookie dough bites for up to three months. Simply pop the baking tray in the freezer, then once they’re frozen put them in a freezer bag or airtight container. Make sure you defrost them fully at room temperature before serving them.
Why do I need to bake the flour?
Flour isn’t treated before we buy it and because this is a no bake recipe you’ll need to sterilise it before using it in the recipe. Follow the instructions at the start of the recipe and bake it for 5-10 minutes. Line your baking tray with baking paper before you do this to make it much easier to add the flour into the mixing bowl later.

Ingredients
125g (2/3 cups) butter
100g (1/2 cup) caster sugar
50g (1/3 cup) soft brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
200g (1 cup) plain or all purpse flour
½ teaspoon salt
How to make cookie dough bites
Bake the flour
Preheat your oven to 180C / 170C Fan / 350F
Get your kids to measure out the flour and spread it out onto a baking tray/sheet lined with baking or parchment paper.
Bake the flour for 5-10 minutes then remove it from the oven and leave it to cool.
Beat the butter and sugars together
Get your kids to measure both the caster and brown sugars out and put them into the bowl of your free-standing mixer or a large mixing bowl.
Measure the butter out then cut it into smaller pieces so that it will be easier to mix in. For the same reason, if your butter isn’t soft pop it in the microwave for a few seconds to soften it (but not long enough for it to melt.
Add the butter to your mixing bowl or free-standing mixer.
Beat the butter and sugars together with the k-paddle of your free-standing mixer, a hand held mixer or wooden spoons until it is light and fluffy.
Add the vanilla
Get your kids to measure out the vanilla and add it to your mixing bowl. If your kids are younger, you might need to hold the spoon while they pour the vanilla in or vice versa.
Add the flour and salt
Get your kids to help measure the flour out and add it to your mixing bowl. Measure in the salt, making your your kids use their finger to level the half teaspoon so that you add just the right amount.
Give everything one more mix until it all comes together.
Add the chocolate chips
The last step is to pour in the chocolate chips in then mix them in with a spatula or wooden spoon until they are well distributed through the cookie dough. Assuming you have a 100g packet, there’s no need to measure the chocolate chips out – your kids can just pour straight in from the packet. If you don’t measure them out but it doesn’t matter too much if you’re not 100% accurate.
Make the cookies
Line a baking tray with baking or parchment paper. Spoon out dollops of cookie dough onto your baking tray. Get your kids to roll them into little balls to neaten them.
It depends how big you want your cookie bites to be, but a generous tea spoon should be just about right.
Chill the cookie bites in the fridge for around 10 minutes so that they harden up a little bit.
Serve and enjoy!
