Chicken and chorizo pasta
Creamy chicken and chorizo pasta is a great, easy midweek meal. Kids will enjoy making as well as eating this easy chorizo pasta dish.
This creamy chicken and chorizo pasta is one of our family’s favourite dinners. I love it because it’s really quick and easy to make. And between the chorizo and the pasta there’s something in it I know both my kids will like too.
Our youngest still isn’t a fan of tomatoes which is why I make this creamy tomato sauce. Sauces based on a tin of tomatoes are really simple and quick to make and I know i’ve always got them in our store cupboard. Adding the crème fraiche gives the sauce a nice creaminess and takes away the acidity of the tomatoes making it a hit with the kids.
The chorizo is a great addition to the dish as it adds a lovely flavour and it’s got a long shelf life so it’s the sort of thing you can keep in the cupboard and pull out you want an easy midweek meal.
How can kids help make this easy creamy chorizo pasta?
It can be a bit harder to find jobs your kids can help with when you’re making dinner compared with baking something. This chorizo pasta dish still has a number of tasks kids can help with.
When I’m making dinner, I’ll get the kids to help peel the onions and garlic while I get the chicken ready. If your kids are old enough they can help stir the sauce and add all the different ingredients.
As much as my kids love baking, they both love the satisfaction of helping to make a meal and serve it to the rest of the family.

1 chorizo sausage (about 225g)
1 onion
a large chicken breast
2 cloves of garlic
1 red pepper
4 tbsp crème fraiche
1 tin chopped tomatoes
How to make creamy chicken and chorizo pasta
Cook the pasta according to the instructions on the packet.
Prepare the vegetables
Get your kids to help prepare the onion, garlic and pepper. Even young children can help to peel the onion and garlic, while older children may also be able to cut the onion and pepper.
Prepare the chicken and chorizo
Cut the chicken into bite sized pieces and chop the chorizo into small slices. These are a bit harder for kids to help with so I tend to do them while they are busy doing something else (either preparing the veg or the next step.)
Cook the onions and garlic
Heat a little oil in a pan and cook the onions for five minutes or so until they have softened and turned translucent.
If your kids are old enough they can help by stirring the onions so they don’t burn.
Add the crushed garlic and cook on a gentle heat for another minute.
Cook the chicken
Add the chicken to your pan and cook on a medium heat for five minutes until the edges are sealed/slightly coloured.
Add the chorizo, tomatoes and pepper
Get your kids to add the chorizo, pepper and tin of tomatoes. Cook for five minutes until everything is cooked through, getting your kids to stir everything together.
Add the crème fraiche
Reduce the heat and get your kids to add the crème fraiche and stir it through.
Serve the creamy chicken and chorizo pasta
Add the cooked pasta to your pan and stir it through so it is well mixed and the pasta is coated in the sauce.
Serve and enjoy!
