Ingredients

  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 3 tbsp caster sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp Nutella plus more for topping

Method

Mix all the ingredients together in a large mug (around 375ml)
  1. Get your kids to measure the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, milk, oil 1, and vanilla extract.
  2. Mix everything together carefully with a teaspoon. Make sure it's properly mixed – including all the bits at the bottom of the mug.
  3. Spoon the Nutella on top of the mixture.
Cook the mug cake
  1. Pop your mug in the microwave and cook it on full power for 90 seconds – 2 minutes. Keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't spill over, especially if you're using a smaller mug.
  2. It's ready when the sponge is nice and light and fluffy.
  3. Remove the mug cake from your microwave and leave to cool for a minute or so before adding the additional spoon of Nutella.
  4. Serve and enjoy!
