Ingredients

  • 275 g (1 1/4 cups) softened, butter
  • 375 g (1 2/3 cups) caster sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 75 g cocoa powder
  • 100 g (7/8 cups) self raising flour
  • 100g chocolate chips
For the decoration
  • 200 g (2 cups) icing sugar
  • green food colouring
  • Sprinkles

Method

Pre-heat the oven to 180C/160C Fan / 325F and grease and line a 30x23 cm baking with baking paper
    Measure out the ingredients
    1. Measure all the ingredients except the chocolate chips out into a large mixing bowl or freestanding mixer. Mix it all together until it is well combined.
    2. Add the chocolate chips and give it one last mix with a wooden spoon.
    Bake the brownies
    1. Spoon the mixture into your prepared baking tin and level it down with the back of a spoon or a spatula.
    2. Bake the brownies in the oven for 40-45 minutes. They're ready when the top has a nice crust and a skewer put in the middle comes out clean(ish). Remove from the oven and leave to cool.
    Make the Christmas trees
    1. Once the brownies have cooled remove them from the tin and cut them into triangles.
    Decorate the Christmas tree brownies
    1. Mix the icing sugar together with a little water and a few dots of gree food colour until it is runny enough to spread on your brownies.
    2. Use a small piping bag or a zip lock bag with a hole cut in the corner to pipe the icing in zig zags from the top of your tree to the bottom. Decorate with sprinkles and a star at the top.
