Ingredients

  • 100 g butter
  • 150 g caster sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 3 bananas the riper the better
  • 250 g plain flour
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 100 g Nutella

Instructions

Preheat the oven to 180C / 170C Fan / 350F and line a 1kg/2lb loaf tin with baking paper.

Beat the butter and sugar together

    • Measure the butter and sugar and put them in a large mixing bowl or stand mixer. Beat them together with a hand held mixer or use the paddle attachment of your mixer until they are light and fluffy.

    Add the eggs

    • Add the eggs to your butter/sugar mixer one at a time, mixing between each addition.

    Add the bananas

    • Peel and mash the bananas. Add them to your mixing bowl and stir them in until they are well combined.

    Add the dry ingredients

    • Measure the flour and baking powder, and add to your banana mixture. Give everything one last stir so everything is mixed together.

Make the banana and chocolate bread

    • Before you add the Nutella, you can heat it in the microwave for 10 seconds or so to make it a bit runnier and easier to spoon.
    • Pour half the banana batter into the bottom of the loaf tin. Add three tbsp of Nutella on top of the batter. Using a skewer or knife, swirl the Nutella through the batter. Pour the rest of the batter over the top, then add three more tbsp of Nutella and swirl it through.

Bake the banana and chocolate loaf

    • Bake the you loaf in your preheated oven for around 50 minutes. It’s ready when a skewer or sharp knife inserted into the middle comes out clean.
    • Remove from the oven and leave to cool for a few minutes, before removing from the tin and leaving on a wire rack to cool completely.
