  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 3 tbsp caster sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa powder
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp Nutella plus more for topping

Mix all the ingredients together in a large mug (around 375ml)

  • Get your kids to measure the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, milk, oil 1, and vanilla extract.
  • Mix everything together carefully with a teaspoon. Make sure it's properly mixed – including all the bits at the bottom of the mug.
  • Spoon the Nutella on top of the mixture.

Cook the mug cake

  • Pop your mug in the microwave and cook it on full power for 90 seconds – 2 minutes. Keep an eye on it to make sure it doesn't spill over, especially if you're using a smaller mug.
  • It's ready when the sponge is nice and light and fluffy.
  • Remove the mug cake from your microwave and leave to cool for a minute or so before adding the additional spoon of Nutella.
  • Serve and enjoy!
